Jumolhari Trek – 11 Days
Trip Overview
The Jumolhari Trek is one of Bhutan’s most famous and challenging Himalayan trekking adventures, taking travelers deep into the remote valleys of the Bhutanese mountains. The trek offers a rare combination of dramatic Himalayan scenery, traditional Bhutanese culture, ancient monasteries, and untouched wilderness. The journey begins from Paro Valley and gradually moves through forests, alpine landscapes, yak herding settlements, and high mountain passes before reaching the spectacular Jangothang region beneath Mount Jumolhari.
This 11 Days Jumolhari Trek in Bhutan begins with arrival at Paro and an acclimatization hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This cultural visit is not only one of Bhutan’s most famous experiences but also helps trekkers prepare their bodies before entering higher elevations. After exploring Paro, the trail begins from Shana and follows the beautiful Paro Chhu Valley toward Soi Thangthangkha and Jangothang, the famous base camp area surrounded by some of Bhutan’s most impressive Himalayan peaks.
The highlight of the journey is reaching Jangothang (Jumolhari Base Camp), where trekkers can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Jumolhari (7,326m), Jichu Drake, and other Himalayan peaks. The acclimatization day at Jangothang allows travelers to explore nearby valleys and enjoy the peaceful mountain environment before crossing the challenging high passes ahead.
After leaving Jangothang, the trail continues through remote Himalayan terrain toward Lingshi and Shodu, crossing spectacular passes including Nyile La Pass and Yele La Pass. These sections are considered the most demanding parts of the trek because of the altitude, long walking hours, and changing weather conditions. However, the panoramic mountain views, untouched landscapes, and peaceful surroundings make every challenging step rewarding.
The final part of the trek descends through forests, rivers, waterfalls, and traditional landscapes before reaching Barshong and connecting with the road toward Thimphu. After completing the trekking adventure, travelers explore the cultural highlights of Thimphu before returning to Paro for departure.
With proper preparation, good physical fitness, and experienced trekking support, the Jumolhari Trek Bhutan is a once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan experience.
