A beautiful 7-day short trek in Nepal that offers some of the best Himalayan views without the busy trails of Everest Base Camp.
Pikey Peak Trek – 07 days
Trip Overview
The Pikey Peak Trek, located in the lower Everest region, is a beautiful 7-day short trek in Nepal that offers some of the best Himalayan views without the busy trails of Everest Base Camp. This trek takes you through peaceful Sherpa villages, green forests, scenic mountain trails, and traditional Buddhist settlements while leading you to the stunning viewpoint of Pikey Peak at 4,065 meters.
Pikey Peak Trek Route
Your 7-day Pikey Peak Trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Dhap. Once you leave the road behind, the trail leads through forests, across open hillsides, and into Sherpa villages like Jhapre and Junbesi. Along the way, you’ll pass spinning prayer wheels, strings of colorful prayer flags, and centuries-old monasteries that overlook the valleys below.
An early morning climb brings you to the summit of Pikey Peak just before sunrise. As the sky begins to brighten, the Himalayan skyline slowly comes into view. On a clear day, you’ll be looking at Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Nuptse, Gaurishankar, Langtang, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri, all standing above the surrounding hills.
As the trail continues, you’ll pass through small Sherpa villages where stone houses, terraced fields, and old monasteries are part of everyday life. Each evening ends at a local teahouse, where you’ll have a warm meal and a place to rest before setting out again the next morning. Since Pikey Peak is less crowded than many of Nepal’s popular trekking routes, you’ll often find long stretches of trail with little more than the sound of birds, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and distant mountain views.
The major advantage of the Pikey Peak Trek is that it does not involve a flight to Lukla. You’ll begin the journey with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap and end the trek at Phaplu before driving back to Kathmandu. This makes the trek more flexible and allows you to enjoy the beautiful countryside, villages, and mountain landscapes along the way.
If you’re looking for a trek with big Himalayan views without long days of walking, Pikey Peak is a great option. The route is moderate, with a mix of gradual climbs and descents, making it suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
Each day brings a different stretch of trail. You’ll walk through pine and rhododendron forests, follow ridgelines with open mountain views, and pass small Sherpa villages where local life continues much as it always has. Evenings are spent in family-run teahouses before setting out again the next morning.
Unlike the busy Everest Base Camp trail, Pikey Peak sees far fewer trekkers. That means quieter paths, unhurried walks, and more time to take in the changing scenery. If you’d rather spend your days on peaceful trails while still enjoying views of Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks, Pikey Peak is a rewarding alternative.

Trip notes
The weather in the Himalayas can change quickly, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons. Since this trek is a road-based journey and does not include a Lukla flight, the itinerary is more flexible, but delays can still happen due to road conditions, landslides, or unexpected weather.
We recommend adding at least one extra day in Kathmandu before your international flight to account for potential delays.
Make sure you have travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical expenses, and emergency evacuation. Carrying trekking poles can be helpful, especially on downhill sections, and packing only the essentials will make your trek more comfortable.
Since ATM facilities are limited along the trail, it is best to withdraw enough Nepalese currency in Kathmandu before starting the trek.
